commentary adds a special zeal onboard the Captain Proud. See birds
feed and play as we cruise.
Our Captains
Our two River Murray Masters' are Captain Stephen Coad and
Captain Greig Donaldson. Our commentaries will cover Murray River
paddle boat history, navigation history and humorous antidotes.
Captain Stephen also offers his time on other famous and historic
paddle steamers the P.S. Marion at Mannum and P.S Industry at
Renmark. Never short of a river yarn, Captain Stephen always enjoys
sharing his experiences and sense of humour with his
passengers.
Our Vessel.
Captain Proud was originally built as the Proud
Lady in 1977 and worked as one of the original showboats on
the Port River. The vessel was rebuilt after a fire in 1987 and
renamed Captain Proud in 1989. In 1993 the
vessel entered the River Murray from the sea at the Murray mouth
near Goolwa and travelled to Echuca. The Captain
Proud has now returned to Murray Bridge where it used to
trade since 1995.
Licensed to carry 70 guests (cocktail) or 65 guests seated.
Captain Proud features an Air Conditioned Dining Room with Licensed
Bar, as well as seating on the second level Fore and Aft decks.
Captain Proud is a real side paddle wheeler. It's only means of
propulsion are the paddle wheels either side of the boat.
